Project Final

This is my final project!

As my topic pertains to self care, I wanted to make sure that was represented in my project. I decided to do a pamphlet or brochure cover. I chose images that showed a relaxing self care ritual, specifically related to beauty as that is what my topic is mostly geared towards. I wanted to create something that looks inviting and not intimidating.

First, I gathered images I thought were fitting for my topic that were copyright free and available for public use. Then I started to group together themes of images, such as color schemes, cosmetic, skincare, etc. I ultimately went for a theme that resembles a spa. The theme that I chose is the epitome of what relaxation looks like, and that is why I think it suits my topic. Since self care is all about taking time for yourself I wanted people who viewed my project to get that impression through my design.

I went through several layouts and designs in Photoshop to figure out what I liked best. I created multiple designs, but ended up scraping them. I wanted to create something that looked geometric and modern, but still look clean and not overwhelm the viewer. So I used three images accompanied by geometric shapes. I ultimately went for a geometric layout using the shape tool arranging them how I thought looked best, and clipped the images I chose inside of them. I also added some green triangle accent pieces to accompany the green in the images I used. It also thought it would add a refreshing feeling. Working with the geometric shape tool was difficult for me at first, and I stared over many times, but I ended up managing to learn how to navigate it through practice. Overall I think the layout is effective and the images are effective in portraying my topic, as well as portraying my own aesthetic.

I was given helpful feedback to add text to some of the empty spaces on the page. I took the advice and I think it makes the page look more cohesive and finished. I initially wanted to keep text to a minimum to keep it simple, but I think the text additions helps the final product a lot.

All the images I used came from unsplash.com and are free for use, these are the links.
